Can the Bulldogs get another win?

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State football is just three games into the season without a bowl opportunity. So the Bulldogs will have to make the most of these final games.

Mississippi State will enter each game as an underdog and will likely face double-digit point spreads. Two of its final three opponents are ranked, and the other, Missouri, was ranked ninth in the country before losing to Texas and Alabama.

So, does the Tigers’ lack of ranking mean the Bulldogs have a better shot at a third win? Or is there reason to think that one of the games offers better odds?

Here’s the reason Mississippi State can win each of its last three games:

Why Mississippi State Can Win: The Bulldogs are a trap for Tennessee. The Vols are in contention for a playoff spot, and whether they get it or not will largely depend on next week’s game against No. 2 Georgia. If Tennessee is ahead of the Bulldogs, that’s the reason they might win.

Why Mississippi State Could Win: Despite starting off with strong ratings, the season didn’t go the way Missouri had hoped. This late in the season, it wouldn’t be a shock if Missouri’s players don’t play their final games at full strength, leaving the door open for a win at Mississippi State.

Why Mississippi State Can Win: Records and rankings don’t matter much in rivalry games, and the list of reasons why the Bulldogs can win is long. But how emboldened would the Bulldogs be if they came to Oxford knowing the Egg Bowl would end Ole Miss’ hopes of a playoff spot?
