Former Manchester United player Gordon Hill staunchly defended one Red Devils star after the 1-1 Premier League draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock in the second half Manchester United after he successfully converted a penalty against Chelsea.

However, United’s lead lasted just four minutes after Moises Caicedo’s stunning volley canceled out Bruno Fernandes’ opener against the Red Devils.

United had to settle for a point in the match at Old Traffordand the Red Devils currently sit 13th in the Premier League table after their first 10 league matches.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed interim manager of United after Eric ten Hag was sacked by the Red Devils last week.

Hill’s message to Manchester United fans

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s temporary coaching spell will end this week after the Europa League match with PAOK and the Premier League match with Leicester City.

Former United striker Gordon Hill took to social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, to forcefully defend the 20-year-old Spanish-born striker.

“Leave Garnacho alone and let him learn his game, yes, he will make mistakes and learn from them. I made mistakes, but I learned my lesson,” he tweeted.

Replying to one user X, Hill added in a follow-up tweet: “He’s stuck and I’m afraid he’ll have to swim.

“All young players need care, but in today’s game there is no time for that.”

Van Nistelrooy on Garnacho and Manchester United

Speaking after Sunday’s 1-1 draw, Van Nistelrooy said United should have won and noted that Garnacho “came close” to scoring against Chelsea “three times”.

“To be honest, I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get the win. I think we had the best chance of the game,” he said, according to Official website of Manchester United.

“Garna came close to goal three times, Marcus hit the post with a powerful attack and Bruno struck in the last couple of minutes when the ball bounced off one of the Chelsea defenders.

“Overall I thought the players’ performance was fantastic. They gave everything they had on the field, and in the end, of course, we agreed to a draw.”
