Concerns about landslides cause Hartford to vote to repair road

HARTFORD, Vt. (WCAX) – Voters in Hartford will decide on Election Day whether to make a multimillion-dollar investment to build a road near downtown White River Junction.

The section of Fairview Terrace where it meets Gates Street has raised serious concerns about landslides in recent years.

It is currently closed to traffic.

Voters will decide Tuesday whether to approve a $4.1 million bond to pay for needed repairs to reopen a one-way road into downtown White River Junction.

“The question now is how to reopen this road and under what conditions, but more importantly how to stabilize the slope so that there are no more landslides that could jeopardize some of the buildings in the area,” Hartford’s city manager said John Haverstock. .

If approved, the average taxpayer on a $250,000 home would likely see an increase of about $60 over the life of the loan.
