2024 Election Live Updates: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump Engage in Last Stand Before Election Day

On Monday, the Georgia Supreme Court, in a victory for the Republican National Committee, ruled that thousands of voters whose mail-in ballots were delayed will not have additional time to mail them back.

The court’s decision overturned a lower court judge’s ruling that granted 3,000 voters an extension to mail-in ballots after Cobb County election officials admitted they missed the deadline to mail them in.

The deadline to receive mail-in ballots in Georgia is Election Day, but a lower court judge gave these voters an extension to have them postmarked by Election Day and received by Nov. 8, the same deadline for overseas ballots.

The RNC appealed the decision, saying it was a violation of the election code and that voters still have other ways to vote, including in person.

The Georgia Supreme Court ordered Cobb’s board to “keep separately” the absentee ballots of those voters received after the Election Day deadline but before Nov. 8, “in a secure, secure and sealed container separate from other ballots.”

Cobb County was previously ordered to send all delayed ballots by Nov. 1 via express delivery and overnight return envelopes.

The court also ordered the board to notify voters by email, text message or public announcement of the change.
