Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang asks SK Hynix to increase supply of HBM4 chips by six months

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang requested a South Korean semiconductor manufacturer SK Hyniks accelerate HBM4 deliveries by six months. Previously, the company announced deliveries of the upcoming HBM4 chips in the second half of next year. According to an IANS report, this information was recently revealed by SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won at the SK AI Summit. “The last time we met, he asked me to push back the HBM4 delivery schedule that was already set by six months,” Chey said.

SK Hynix is ​​a key supplier of high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to Nvidia. In March, it became the first in the world to supply fifth-generation eight-layer HBM3E chips to Nvidia. The company recently began mass production of NVIDIA CEO. Jensen Huang asks SK Hynix to increase the supply of HBM4 chips (this is an improved 12-layer HBM3E chip) by six months.
During the SK AI Summit session, Nvidia’s CEO highlighted the partnership with SK hynix in a video message, calling the latter’s development plan “ultra-aggressive” but “ultra-necessary.” Huang’s request to speed up deliveries of HBM4 chips underscored growing demand for Nvidia’s artificial intelligence accelerators, which use HBM chips for data processing and power-intensive tasks.

In his speech, Chey highlighted the three-way partnership between SK hynix, Nvidia and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in building the supply chain of the global artificial intelligence chip industry. “When Nvidia comes out with new, better GPUs, it needs more HBM chips,” Chey explained. “That’s why SK hynix is ​​working hard to keep up. Developing cutting-edge HBM products and maintaining high profitability is challenging, so working more closely with Nvidia is important,” he added.
