The Vikings may need a new kicker and long snapper with Reichard and DePaola injured.

The Vikings may need to add a new kicker and a new long snapper this week.

Will Reichard and Andrew DePaola are out with injuries following Sunday’s win over the Colts, head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed Monday. This quadruple problem for Reichardwho was perfect in the NFL until he missed two field goals in the second quarter against Indianapolis. DePaola has a hand injury that requires surgery.

O’Connell didn’t provide specific information about Reichardt, but it appears there’s a real possibility he won’t be able to play next Sunday against the Jaguars.

“We’re still in the process of evaluating the quadriceps injury, and I’ll keep you posted as we kind of finalize the schedule and whether we need to maybe bring in some kickers to potentially take a look at them,” O. Connell said. “Over the course of the week, we may get more clarity on this issue. I think it will be so.”

The Vikings head coach said he believes Reichardt’s injury “was a contributing factor” in the rookie missing two kicks against the Colts, a 53-yarder and a 31-yarder. They will continue to evaluate whether he has a chance to play against the Jaguars or if he will miss at least a game. The hope is that Reichard won’t need to go on injured reserve, which would mean missing at least four games.

Prior to Sunday’s game, Reichard was 34 of 34 on shots this season. He still managed to turn things around and earn three extra points in the victory. Reichard also suffered a quad injury as a freshman at Alabama in 2019.

“It’s something you’d want him to continue on the fabulous trajectory he’s been on since he got here,” O’Connell said. “These things kind of come up and we’ll go through a process here to make sure we put the best plan in place to have him (fully healthy) and do what we’ve been doing all season up until last night.”

The Vikings are expected to bring kickers to practice on Tuesday. KSTP’s Darren Wolfson. One person who could be on this list is John Parker Romo, who played for the Vikings in the offseason before Reichardt took the job.

The same will happen at the long snapper position, where All-Pro DePaola needs hand surgery and could be placed on IR.

“Andrew DePaola had an arm injury and will need a procedure to let that thing heal, he probably looks like a short-term IR candidate that we would potentially need to have a long snapper in the building,” O’Connell said.

Punter Ryan Wright may be working with two new faces in the Vikings game this week.
