The Tigers drowned the Bucs in the season opener, 91–64.

CLEMSON, SC (Clemson Athletics) – The Clemson University men’s basketball team opened the 2024-25 season in domination with a resounding 91-64 victory over Charleston Southern on Monday night at Littlejohn Coliseum.

The Tigers (1-0) were led by Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake), who scored 17 points. Nine of them came in the final 1:42 of the first half, when Hunter hit three straight 3-pointers to give the Tigers a 48-24 halftime lead.

Miles Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks (Mass.) School/Illinois State/Monmouth) matched Hunter, scoring 17 points off the Clemson bench and adding four rebounds and two blocked shots. Clemson scored a total of 40 points off the bench, including nine on three triples from Jake Heidbreder (Floyds Knobs, Indiana/Floyd Central).

The list of scorers with double-digit points is completed by Viktor Lakhin (Anapa, Russia/CSKA-2/Cincinnati), who scored 12 points. Ian Schieffelin (Atlanta, GA/Grayson) nearly had his first double-double of the season, finishing with eight points. and nine rebounds.

Head coach Brad Brownell wanted to create more havoc on the defensive side of the field this season. The Tigers totaled nine interceptions, tying a season high a year ago when Clemson had nine interceptions twice.

Clemson beat Charleston Southern 40-34, led by Schieffelin’s nine and the fives of Laheen and Chase Hunter. Chauncey Wiggins (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) added four boards and eight points.

Jayden Zackery (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central/Boston College) scored six points and led the defensive charge with three steals. He added three assists.

Over the final 8:30 of the first half, Clemson outscored Charleston Southern 28-10 and led by 24 at halftime. It was the same in the second half, with the Tigers leading by 36 points and winning 91- 64.

Clemson returns to Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday, November 8th when it hosts St. Francis at 7:00 pm on ACCNX.
