Star The Dick Van Dyke Show posted a black and white video of himself sitting in his living room with the caption “VOTE!!! @kamalaharris @vp @kamalahq” supporting Democratic candidate for President, Vice President Kamala Harris.

He began the video by introducing himself, saying, “You may remember that I sang, danced, and actually fell a lot,” while a selection of footage from his storied Hollywood career appeared on screen.

Van Dyke continued, sharing, “50 years ago, May 31, 1964, I was on the podium with Dr. Martin Luther King who addressed 16,000 people at the Los Angeles Coliseum. I was there to read the message written Rod Serlingthe guy who wrote The Twilight Zone. I picked it up the other day and I think it means as much today, if not more, than it did back then, so if you don’t mind, I’d like to read it.

He then read part of the speech to the camera, saying: “Hate is not normal. Prejudice is not the norm. Suspicion, hostility, envy, scapegoating – none of these are the transcendental side of the human personality. These are diseases. This is a cancer of the soul. These are infectious and contagious viruses that have been bleeding humanity for years. But since they were and since they are, is it necessary that they should be? I think not.

Van Dyke continued reading, declaring, “If there is one voice left to say welcome to a stranger, if there is one hand extended to say come in and share, if there is one mind left to think of warmth and friendship, then there is a future in which we will find more than one hand, more than one voice and more than one mind dedicated to the cause of human equality.”

Mary Poppins star continued reading the speech before stopping to remember when he originally read it. “1964. A lot has happened, not as much as Martin Luther dreamed, but this is just the beginning. Thank you, God bless,” he addressed his followers.
