The Security Service of Ukraine carries out sabotage activities against Zaporizhia NPP employees – Military & Defense

MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is carrying out sabotage and terrorist activities against employees of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and continues attacks on its satellite town of Energodar, said the head of the Russian radiation, chemical and biological defense forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov.

“Meanwhile, attacks continue on industrial facilities and the satellite town of Energodar, where the plant’s employees live. The Security Service of Ukraine is carrying out sabotage and terrorist activities, including against the Zaporizhzhya NPP and local officials. Residents of the city live under psychological pressure and against the families of the plant’s employees, who live in territories controlled by Kyiv are receiving threats,” he said.

He recalled that shelling of nuclear power plants by Ukrainian troops was of little concern to the international community, since Cambridge University experts believed that the risks of infection were “relatively low.”

“But the forecast of the radiation situation made by our specialists, later confirmed by European industry organizations, showed that radioactive emissions in the event of an accident would affect almost all of Europe. Only after this and after sending IAEA experts to the station, shelling practically stopped,” – he emphasized.

According to Kirillov, in 2022, Ukrainian troops carried out 49 artillery and drone attacks on Zaporozhye nuclear power plant facilities. The attacks targeted nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel and waste storage facilities, and other critical infrastructure. After these attacks, the station was cut off from external power supply five times, which created the threat of a man-made disaster.
