Larson and Griffin seek to represent Connecticut’s 1st District

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – There are two primary candidates in the Connecticut First Congressional District race.

Longtime President and Democrat John Larson faces GOP challenger Jim Griffin.

Channel 3 described the race last month.

Larson is the second longest-serving member of the Connecticut delegation. He was first elected in 1998.

He said the state Democratic Party considers the district the most liberal. It has not had a Republican representative since 1957.

Larson said one of the things he wants to do is update the Social Security system, which hasn’t been touched in more than 50 years.

Griffin is a former Democrat. He has not held political office, but told Channel 3 he worked in the Reagan White House on budget issues. He was also a lieutenant colonel in the army.

He said his main goal was to overthrow the Federal Reserve.
