Three people were injured when an EF-1 tornado touched down in Basile, Louisiana.

BASILE, La. – EF-1 tornado three people were injured in the attack near Basile, LouisianaTuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS noted that the tornado had reached its peak. wind speed 95 mph, path 1 mile long and 150 yards wide.

Tornado touched down along US Highway 190 is just west of the town of just over 1,200 people.

Basil Mayor Mark Denette said three people were taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

He added that the tornado caused significant damage to the local grocery store, Rhea’s Specialty Meats, and expressed his condolences to the store’s owner, Jude Burton.

“Prayers for Jude, his familyand his staff like his place business is a very important part of Basil,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Other storm damage included downed trees and damage to an RV, Denette said.

A tornado was also spotted near the city Mauricewhich is southeast of Basile, the NWS said.
