McKesson will pay 8K to settle employment discrimination charges: 4 things you need to know

Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs reached agreement with McKesson Medical-Surgical to resolve allegations of systemic employment discrimination at its Grapevine, Texas facility.

Here are four things you need to know:

  1. The case stems from a suitability assessment that found McKesson’s hiring practices between September 2019 and September 2021 discriminated against nearly 900 applicants for junior longshoreman positions based on race and ethnicity, according to a Nov. 4 Department of Labor press release.
  2. The watchdog found that 472 black, 226 Hispanic and 186 white applicants were affected by alleged discriminatory hiring practices.
  3. To settle the case, McKesson will pay $448,578 in back wages and interest and extend job offers to 32 qualified applicants. The company also agreed to review its hiring procedures to ensure compliance with federal law and provide training to management overseeing hiring decisions, it said.

McKesson did not respond to Becker request for comment.
