During the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting, discussions went beyond development issues and political overtones were evident throughout.

Public representatives, including the BJP, supported the resolution thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for increasing the allocation for the Jal Jeevan Mission water supply system.

“Yes, we have demanded a resolution to thank the Prime Minister for increasing the allocation for the scheme by almost four times. We have provided water supply to 273 places,” said Manoj Kumar Pandey, a Samajwadi Party MLA who defected to the BJP.

Rahul Gandhi directed district officials to verify these claims and looked into issues such as road maintenance and availability of medicines at AIIMS Rae Bareli.

While Rahul Gandhi did not speak to the media and senior officials were not available for comment, those aware of the developments said that discussions at DISHA were also focused on implementation of the piped water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission .

Another issue raised at the meeting was the maintenance of roads constructed by the district panchayat.

It was noted that the district panchayat should also take interest in maintaining the roads. There have been complaints against the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rae Bareli, with some members of the public pointing out that AIIMS doctors were prescribing medicines that were not available in the institute’s store.

“Rahul Gandhi said that he has a letter ready to address the Union Health Minister and will send it soon,” said a public official. Some others called it a scam.

Rahul Gandhi also asked district officials to verify the facts about the number of consumers of the Ujjwala scheme refilling LPG cylinders.

The district officer said 90 per cent of the cylinders were refilled. Rahul Gandhi said district officials should verify the allegations with the relevant agencies and submit a report on them.

He also asked the district officials to provide him with details about the functioning of the self-help groups, the work done by them and the funds provided by the state government.

Apart from Rahul, Congress MP from Amethi K.L. was also present at the meeting. Sharma, Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh, who was previously in the Congress.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi, who arrived at Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport around 10 am on Tuesday, was greeted by senior party leaders including party MP Pramod Tiwari and Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’.

On his way to Rae Bareli, he stopped at the Hanuman temple and performed puja there. In Rae Braeli he dedicated a rebuilt crossing and several new roads to the public.

Spend time in the constituency: Minister takes aim at MP Kong

Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture and Agricultural Marketing Dinesh Pratap Singh on Tuesday criticized Rahul Gandhi for not spending enough time in his constituency after being elected MP from Rae Bareli in the 2024 polls .

Although Singh sat next to Rahul Gandhi at the DISHA meeting, he showed the media a poster of Rahul Gandhi asking the MP to spend the night in his constituency.

The poster at the top read, “Rae Bareli ke logon ke liye, ek raat to gujariye Rae Bareli mein” (For the people of Rae Bareli to spend a night in Rae Bareli) and the main headline read “Rae Bareli ke Rahul Ji.”

At the bottom of the poster it was written: “chhah mah main panch ghante to paanch saal main 30 ghante, matlab 5 saal main kul do din” (five hours in six months, 30 hours in five years, meaning two days in five years).

Singh later said that Rahul Gandhi should remain in his constituency. He said that Rahul Gandhi, who was now representing Rae Bareli, and his mother Sonia Gandhi, who earlier represented the constituency, had not accepted a single village under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.

Singh also cited some statistics to prove that more funds were allocated for the development of Rae Bareli under the Modi government than during the UPA regime.

Is the hotline working, Rahul asks.

The Congress MP asked those present at the meeting to dial the helpline number to highlight that such numbers are not operational in the state.

Rahul Gandhi asked Amethi MP K.L. Sharma dial the hotline number. He then asked district officials to do so, and when they failed to communicate, there was laughter.
