Biden appears to praise the very vivacious Gabby Giffords

President Joe Biden appeared to praise the former Democratic congresswoman Gabby Giffords on Friday, praising her husband, the senator. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) in Arizona.

Giffords it was terrible head shot during a mass shooting near Tuscon in 2011. She survived and resigned from the House of Representatives. Her long road to recovery has been well documented.

Biden was in Arizona on Friday afternoon. apologize to Native Americans across the country on behalf of the U.S. government for the atrocities committed at boarding schools for Indian children.

Before making comments about Native American children, the president was introduced on stage by the governor. Stephen Lewis Gila River Indian Community. Biden thanked Lewis, introduced himself, greeted Senator Kelly, and then appeared to address Giffords in the past tense:

I’m Joe Biden, husband of Jill Biden. Governor, thank you for introducing me. And to the Gila River Indian Community for welcoming me today. You know, I say this with all sincerity. To me, this is one of the most important things I have ever had to do in my career as President of the United States. I’m honored, truly honored, to be in this special place on this special day. Thank you to Senator Mark Kelly, a great friend of mine who was also married to an incredible woman who was my friend.

This wasn’t the first time Biden buried someone prematurely. As vice president in 2010, Biden asked for blessing the Irish Prime Minister’s mother, declaring “God bless her soul” even though she was still alive.

Biden continued his conversation with Native Americans, where he offered an apology that he said was “overdue” for Indian children who were forced into residential schools for a 150-year period ending in the 1960s.

Hundreds of these children died in schools, and countless others were physically and sexually abused.

Biden became the first US president to formally apologize for the resettlement programs on Friday, fulfilling a long-standing promise.
