Buttigieg denies Biden-Harris administration is mandating electric vehicles, blames Trump for letting China get ahead

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is on the defensive during an interview on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday when asked about the Biden-Harris administration’s electric vehicle mandates.

Fox News Host Brian Kilmeade asked Buttigieg whether the EV mandate had hurt Harris’ campaign, to which Buttigieg denied the mandate.

“And if someone wants an electric car, they can get one. And if someone wants a gas car, they can get one,” Buttigieg said.

Buttigieg also said the Biden-Harris administration’s main goal is to make every car made in America.

“We now know that electric vehicle technology is coming whether people are ready for it or not,” Buttigieg said, before claiming that Trump had allowed China to take the lead on electric vehicles.

Kilmeade then questioned Biden’s mining policies, which often limited the ability to create mineral supply chains in the USA

“Is this an interview or a debate? Can I at least finish my sentence?” Buttigieg asked.

“Well, I just can’t let you throw out delusions. “It’s important,” Kilmeade replied.

“Excuse me? Name one statement I just made that you would say is factually inaccurate,” Buttigieg said.

“The statement you just made was that Donald Trump allowed China to take the lead,” Kilmeade responded.

Buttigieg responded by reiterating that the Biden-Harris administration’s goal is to produce more cars here in the US.
