Kentucky voters voted for all 100 seats in the state House of Representatives and half of the seats in the state Senate. general elections this year.

While Republicans have a supermajority in the General Assembly, Democrats were hoping to gain some support and flip some seats from red to blue.

In Senate districts around Louisville, several candidates ran unopposed: Democrats Cassie Chambers Armstrong, Gerald Neal and Keturah Herron. See results from two contested Louisville metro races, plus one to watch in Eastern Kentucky, below.

Senate District 7: Aaron Reed defeats Rhonda Davis

Republican Aaron Reed won the seat with 68% of the vote. He is a former Navy SEAL who owns two small firearms-related businesses. He defeated incumbent Republican Sen. Adrienne Southworth in the May primary. Issues important to him include school choice and protecting the Second Amendment.

Democratic candidate Rhonda Davis received 32% of the vote. She is a retired registered nurse and the owner of Cannabis Phrog, a company that sells hemp-derived products. She advocated for LGBTQ rights and the legalization of cannabis.

Senate District 37: Calvin Leach vs. David Yates

Democratic incumbent David Yates won another term with 60.4% of the vote. He was first elected to the Senate in 2020 and previously represented District 25 on the Louisville Metro Council for 10 years. He is also currently serving as Minority Whip.

Republican candidate Calvin Leach received 39.6% of the vote. He works part-time at the Louisville Airport while interning with the Kentucky Department of Refugee Services. He is also pursuing a master’s degree in political science at the University of Louisville and served in the U.S. Army Reserves for five years.

Senate District 29: Write Candidates to Fill Johnny Turner’s Seat

Eleven registered candidates filed to run on the campaign trail at the last minute after Sen. Johnny Turner died from injuries sustained in a lawnmower accident.

The district covers Bell, Floyd, Harlan, Knott and Letcher counties in Eastern Kentucky.

The list of candidates includes: Craig Blackburn, John Clem, Willie Craze, Leonard Hendrickson, Tanner Hesterberg, Valerie Horne, Scott Madon, Justin Noble, Andrew Saylor, Tyler Ward and Paul Williams.
