Angry commercial driver in Lagos sets car and LASTMA staff member on fire (VIDEO)

Nigerians witnessed a dramatic scene on Tuesday when an angry commercial driver set his bus and a Lagos State Traffic Authority official on fire in an attempt to evade arrest.

Adebayo Taofik, Director, Public Relations and Education Department, LASTMA, confirmed the development in a statement to X.

According to a viral video, the injured LASTMA officer suffered serious burns after the incident while others ran for safety.

According to LASTMA, the incident occurred at Sele Mile 2 after officers intercepted a bus for violating traffic rules.

“The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is aware of a disturbing video which shows the driver of a Volkswagen T4 commercial bus, registration plate LSD 355 CK, setting his vehicle and LASTMA officers on fire in a brazen attempt to evade arrest.

“This shocking incident occurred today, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, when the driver resisted arrest by LASTMA officials in an extremely aggressive manner.

“The vehicle was intercepted for violating traffic rules in the Sele area at Mile 2.

“During the arrest, the driver and his conductor resorted to violence, poured petrol on LASTMA officers and engaged in hostile confrontations and physical attacks on the officers present.

“The injured LASTMA officer, who suffered serious burns, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment,” the Lagos government agency said.
