eThekwini will carry out further testing to improve water supply

Officials say they will conduct additional inspections and consider closing inlets at the South Aqueduct to increase pressure.

The city is responding to complaints from Queensburgh residents who say they are fed up with ongoing power outages.

The municipality says the reduction in water flow to Firwood Reservoir is due to lower water supply levels at the Durban Heights water treatment plant, which has struggled to raise water levels, leaving some areas with minimal or no water.

Some residents say they’ve been struggling for two weeks without resources, while others say they’re tired of complaining.

“We are tired of the same problem; No one seems to be getting to the bottom of this. It looks like it won’t be repaired, so it’s very annoying,” one resident told Newswatch.

“People, especially the elderly, find it difficult to carry and transport water. We want to know why the tank is always faulty.

“Previously it was two or three days. Now we’ve gotten to the point where we don’t have water for five to ten days, maybe even fifteen days. At the prices and stuff that we pay, we get absolutely no water.” services for this.”
