India skipper Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli suffered a huge loss in the latest ICC Test rankings. This time, both veterans had a poor domestic season, although India lost for the first time to New Zealand 0-3. While Rohit scored 91 runs in six innings against New Zealand, Kohli too could only score 93 in the same number of matches in the same series. Consequently, their rankings suffered due to these poor results and they are now both out of the top 20.

Interestingly, both the Indian batters were ranked in the top 10 when the home season began and after five Test matches, they were nowhere to be seen in the rankings. For the unversed, Kohli has scored 192 runs in 10 innings at an average of 21.33 this season, Rohit’s form has been even worse as he has scored 133 runs at an average of 13.3, the second worst of any captain at home in this format.

For the same reason, Kohli dropped eight places to 22nd position and Rohit Sharma dropped two places to 26th. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant continued his decent form in the New Zealand Test series, finishing first with 261 runs. He rose five positions in the rankings and took sixth place with 750 rating points. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped from third to fourth place due to failures in the Mumbai Test.

Ratings of Indian batters in Test cricket

Former England captain Joe Root remains at the top of the table with 903 rating points with Kane Williamson next despite missing three Test matches against India. England batter Harry Brooke is third with 778 points. Steve Smith is in fifth position, 20 points behind Jaiswal.
