In a major step towards addressing the issue of ‘fake admission’, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to terminate the affiliation of 21 schools and downgrade the status of six schools from senior secondary to intermediate level. The decision followed a surprise inspection carried out in September at schools in Rajasthan and Delhi, during which several violations were found.

What is the motive for surprise inspections in schools?

CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta told PTI that the practice of bogus admission or no-show admission is against the core mission of school education and hampers significant growth of students. To address this issue, the board is taking drastic measures to combat the rise in bogus schools. They aim to send a clear message to all affiliated institutions, urging them to resist the temptation to accept a sham or walk-in reception. He also added that the important observations of the surprise inspection committees regarding irregularities observed during the inspections have been conveyed in the form of a report to the schools concerned.

He also said that the responses submitted by the schools were examined in detail by the Board. Based on the inspection results and confirmed by video evidence, 21 schools have been withdrawn and six schools have been promoted from senior secondary to secondary level,” he added.

According to the data, 21 schools have withdrawn from membership, of which 16 are in Delhi and five are in Rajasthan’s coaching centers of Kota and Sikar.
