A police investigation is underway near the westbound I-10 Katy Freeway at I-45 North after a man reportedly jumped from an overpass.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A portion of a major freeway near downtown Houston was closed Wednesday morning after police responded to reports of someone jumping from an overpass.

Houston TranStar reported the incident at approximately 7:35 a.m. on westbound I-10 Katy at I-45 North.

As a result, all westbound lanes of the Katy Freeway at Hogan Street were closed, but they have since reopened at 9:45 a.m.

According to the Houston Police Department, witnesses reported a man jumped from an overpass and landed on top of a car on the freeway. Police said the victim died.

Police are still trying to determine what happened.
