Latest US Election: Harris to call Trump ahead of concessions speech – as Trump’s lawyers plan to drop criminal cases | US News

With both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris set to speak with Donald Trump today to formally certify the election, there is already a stark contrast in how Democrats are handling defeat compared to how Trump’s team handled it in 2020.

You may remember that just four years ago, Trump declared victory on election night even though the race had never been called, and made wild allegations of widespread fraud – all of which were debunked and rejected by the courts. all over the country.

Trump refused to concede the election in the weeks and months after the election, and his claims of voter fraud culminated at a rally in Washington on Jan. 6 when the presidential election results were certified, leading to a riot at the U.S. Capitol. building as Trump supporters tried to stop the process.

He eventually admitted that the Oval Office video would show a “new president” after hours of violence.

Four years later, the losing candidate is expected to call Trump today to formally concede the election, before she addresses the nation at around 9pm UK time.

Incumbent President Joe Biden, following his victory, is also expected to call his predecessor and now successor and invite him to the White House – two traditions Trump refused to follow in 2020.

The White House has previously said publicly that Biden would attend Trump’s inauguration if he wins the presidency, which Trump did not do.
