‘I’m speechless’: Lottery player beats odds to win €250k prize with €10 scratch card

Christmas came early for County Wexford the man who won a life-changing €250,000 prize from a €10 scratch card he bought on a whim.

The National Lottery has confirmed that a player has won the jackpot on a Mega Money Multiplier scratch card he bought from Doyle’s Daybreak store in Ballymurna, Co Wexford.

Commenting on receiving his winnings, the sole winner said: “I ran into the store for a chicken wrap and, standing at the checkout, threw in a €10 scratch card – without really thinking about it, I completely forgot about it in my pocket until the end day.”

Unbeknownst to the player at the time, the mega scratch card and his newfound fortune were forgotten until late that evening. “I had a nickel with me and when I scratched the card I couldn’t believe it – I was speechless. All I kept thinking about was that if I had let someone else get ahead of me in line, or if I had ordered something different at the deli, or even if I hadn’t bothered to buy a muffin at all, I might not have won,” he said.

When asked who he told about his win, he laughed: “Last week I pranked my mom by telling her I was going to have the dog baptized – it’s a viral trend on TikTok right now and we got such a laugh at her reaction. So when I told her about the win, it took her almost a week to believe me, and to be honest, I don’t think she fully believes me yet.”

The player plans to rely on his fortune for now and is thinking about using it for travel in the future.

The player won the prize after purchasing a Merry Money scratch card from the Centra store in Dungarvan.

Visiting National Lottery headquarters in Dublin this Wednesday, the woman said: “I originally won €20 on a scratch card and decided to exchange it for another, but before I bought any other scratch card I checked the lottery website. to see what the odds were on each card—that was the only method of purchasing.”

After the woman scratched the winning card on Monday, she says she struggled to believe the prize was real until her trip to Lotto headquarters became a reality.
