TL;DR

  • Google’s artificial intelligence prototype, Jarvis, made a brief appearance in the Chrome web browser’s extension store.
  • The AI has been described as “a helpful companion that surfs the Internet with you.”
  • When used, the prototype was found to be inoperative.

At the end of last month it was reported that Google is working on an autonomous artificial intelligence assistant codenamed Jarvis. A recent mistake on Google’s part has confirmed the existence of this new AI.

According to InformationGoogle accidentally published an internal preview of Jarvis on the Chrome web browser extension store. For a while, users were able to download an internal preview version. However, the prototype won’t work if you try to use it because it requires permissions. The firm reportedly closed the listing for internal preview by mid-afternoon that same day.

In the Extension Store, Jarvis was described as “a helpful companion that surfs the Internet with you.” The report mentioned earlier states that Jarvis is designed to “take control of your web browser” and perform tasks ranging from helping you book hotel rooms to helping you do research. Jarvis is said to work by “often taking screenshots of what’s happening on their computer screen and interpreting the snapshots before taking actions such as clicking a button or entering text into a text field.”

Google was reportedly planning to unveil Jarvis next month alongside the next version of its flagship large language model. But it looks like the cat is already out of the bag. Once Jarvis is launched, it looks like it will compete with the recently released OpenAI. ChatGPT search peculiarity.
