Hospital groups react to Trump’s victory

Donald Trump was chosen one 47th President of the United States November 6. Here’s how three hospital groups responded to the win with their statements:

Chip Kahn. President and CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals: FAH congratulates President-elect Donald Trump, and we look forward to working with him, his administration, and the new Congress to ensure all Americans have the health care they need and deserve. Around-the-clock health care is critical to the American people, and we will work together to ensure all Americans have access to the hospital care they need in their communities. Patients across the country face many important issues regarding health insurance and managed care Medicare beneficiary protection, and we look forward to working together to address patient care issues.

Rick Pollack. President and CEO of the American Hospital Association: The AHA and America’s hospitals and health systems congratulate President-elect Trump and look forward to working with him and his new administration to make progress on the many critical issues facing the healthcare industry and the patients and communities we proudly serve. We also congratulate new and returning members of Congress on both sides of the aisle.

As we enter the final weeks of this Congressional session and look ahead to the next, our priorities remain the same: ensuring access to coverage and health care, improving the quality and affordability of health care, supporting our caregivers, and ensuring that hospitals and health care systems have the resources and support they need to remain a cornerstone of their community.

Bruce SiegelDoctor of Medical Sciences. President and CEO of America’s Essential Hospitals: We are committed to working with the new Administration and Congress to strengthen health care for all people by protecting Medicaid and other programs that help working families and others stay healthy and productive.

Good health and the financial security that access to health care provides is vital to a strong economy and healthy community. Our hospitals provide this, as well as life-saving services for entire communities, such as trauma and burn care, transplant services and behavioral health. Major hospitals are economic engines and often the largest employers in a community.

We appreciate President-elect Trump’s stated commitment to unity for the benefit of all Americans. We are also committed to working with all stakeholders to maintain and enhance the indispensable role our hospitals play in their communities.

David SkortonDoctor of Medical Sciences. President and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges: At a time when the challenges around the world are daunting and the divisions in our country seem at times insurmountable, a historic number of Americans have exercised their fundamental right to vote and made their voices heard. Now more than ever, we are witnessing the need to come together as a country, overcome our differences and overcome the challenges we face.

AAMC will work with President-elect Donald Trump, the new administration and the new U.S. Congress to continue our efforts to improve the health of patients, families and communities across the country. This work will be critical to ensuring patient access to high-quality care; creation, strengthening and diversification of medical personnel; addressing long-standing health inequalities; and advancing medical research that leads to prevention, treatment and cures for Americans across the country.

As a nonpartisan organization, we are proud of the role we play in leading the academic medical community, and we will continue to work with policymakers across the political spectrum to improve the health of people around the world.
