Take-Two exec says Borderlands movie was ‘really disappointing’ but still helped sell some Borderlands games

After Borderlands’ stunning critical and commercial failureEven Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick agreed that the film was a “disappointment.” But hey, he figures, at least it helped sell some older Borderlands games.

“We license intellectual property selectively,” Zelnick says. Diversity. “As you know, we have a deal under consideration, for example, for Bioshock. While the Borderlands movie was a real disappointment, it was good for our Borderlands catalog sales. So we would prefer to be a huge success. As you know, we had no financial exposure to the negative consequences. So we are selective for the very reason that you simply cannot control these outcomes and we prefer to control our own destiny. However, we will still license selectively.”
