Baylor Study Offers Evidence-Based Anxiety Treatment for Children with Autism and Anxiety at Harris Center

Baylor College of Medicine is collaborating with the Harris Center on research to provide evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for treating children with autism and adolescents with anxiety. CBT is an effective form of therapy that addresses anxiety by helping people change their way of thinking and learn to gradually confront fearful situations. Dr. Eric StorchProfessor and Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor, leading the research.

If you are the parent of an autistic child or teen who experiences anxiety, consider enrolling your child in a Community Program for Anxiety Adapted for Autism (CAPTA). This program includes 14 weeks of therapy at the Harris Mental Health and IDD Center and a total of four virtual assessment interviews, offering reimbursement of up to $125. The program is open to children with autism between the ages of 7 and 17 with elevated symptoms of anxiety. Both parent and child must speak English or Spanish.
