Penzlin and Lofman head to the ITA–LSU Sectional Championships

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Julien Penzlin and Alexi Lofman will travel to Tallahassee to compete in the ITA Sectional Championships at Florida State University. The game will begin on Thursday, November 7th and end on Sunday, November 10th.

ITA Sectional Championships

The 2024 ITA Sectional Championships will have a singles draw size of 32 and a doubles draw size of 16. Of this total, six singles players from each section (24) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship. Meanwhile, three doubles teams from each section (12) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the sectional championships.

Senior Julien Penzlin and sophomore Alexi Lofman will compete in the tournament. Penzlin will compete in singles and they will pair up to compete in doubles.

The duo is currently ranked 20th in the ITA doubles rankings. They have had an impressive fall campaign so far, with strong results at both the ITA Southern Regional Championships and the ITA All-American Championships.

On home courts, the Tiger duo reached the semi-finals of the tournament. Entering play in the round of 16, the pair defeated Jacksonville State duo Timo De Visser and Logan Hagy 8-6. Penzlin and Loughman opened the Tigers’ round of 16 against Thomas Kennedy and Nicholas Hang, winning 8–4 and sending them into the quarterfinals. They secured their spot in the semi-finals after beating Mathieu Chambonnière and Noah Schlagenhauf 8–6.

At the ITA All-American Championships, the pair reached the quarterfinals after defeating several ranking pairs. To open the tournament, they faced the Old Dominion duo of No. 8 seed Connor Henry Van Schalkwyk and Cody Schalk Van Schalkwyk, winning 6-3, 7-6(4). They then defeated the No. 11 duo of Wally Thain and Zach Fuchs of Brigham Young University 3–6, 7–6(2), 11–9 to advance to the quarterfinals.
