Firefighters remind people of the burning ban

TRUMBULL Company, Ohio (WKBN) — Firefighters in Trumbull County are reminding people about Ohio’s annual fall fire ban.

Over the past two weeks, agencies have seen an uptick in outdoor fire calls. Burghill Vernon Fire Chief George Snyder says there have been more than 70 calls between wildfires and burning complaints across the county since Oct. 27.

Snyder says he’s using resources from local fire departments.

“We understand that people want to take advantage of the good weather to try to clean up trash, clean up their yards. What is happening, however, is that these fires are getting out of control, especially with the continued high winds,” Snyder said.

Under Ohio law, open outdoor burning is prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in October and November.

“It takes a lot of man hours and a lot of resources to put out these fires that are essentially being spread by careless and illegal arson,” Snyder said.
