Mumbai: A 42-year-old fashion designer from Mazgaon, Byculla East was allegedly threatened by unknown persons on behalf of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.

Police said he received a call from an unknown number on Saturday and a person posing as a member of Bishnoi’s gang threatened him and told him to settle all disputes within seven days.

The unknown person not only threatened him, but also asked the designer to “remember his family.” A police officer said, “The caller claimed that he was a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and that the designer should not associate with the gang. The caller said that he was given seven days to resolve all issues and talk to interested people.”

The applicant, who initially avoided calling, eventually decided to contact the police. The Sewri police have registered a case under Section 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita against unknown persons.

The police said they prima facie suspect that it was the work of someone who knows the complainant well. “We are obtaining technical details to determine where the call was made from. The complainant shared some figures with us,” said a police officer.
