Sturgis pleads not guilty to charges in October standoff

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A Sturgis man pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an October standoff at the Meade County Courthouse on Wednesday.

Daniel O’Crotty, 43, is charged with stalking, simple assault, false imprisonment and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Oct. 17 when O’Crotty allegedly took his girlfriend’s car.

He is accused of returning drunk and refusing to hand over the keys.

According to court documents, O’Crotty then became violent, preventing his girlfriend from escaping – even throwing her to the floor.

This led to a standoff involving the Rapid City-Pennington County Special Response Team.

The probable cause affidavit in the case says the friend claims she feared for her life during the ordeal.

O’Crotty’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 13.
