Look out, Nvidia—new benchmarks show Apple M4 Ultra can take on the mighty RTX 4090

A new benchmark for the M4 Max suggests the M4 Ultra could outperform the RTX 4090.

It claims that “GPU scaling from the leaked M4 Pro to the M4 Max delivers 78% faster performance,” while it’s safe to say the M4 Ultra will retain “the worst scaling while delivering 70% better performance” with scores of 330,000 points.

This could put the M4 Ultra higher Nvidiathe company’s flagship GPU, if that’s accurate, but it’s important to note that it won’t be across the board – this is an early benchmark test, after all, and Apple hasn’t even announced the M4 Ultra, so this performance claim is based on extrapolating the M4 Max results. which is obviously not an exact science.

What could this mean for Apple’s place in the gaming market?

Given the rumored specs, it’s clear that Apple has some serious power with the M4 chips. The M4 Ultra’s projected performance across the aforementioned APIs could finally allow Macs to compete with the best gaming laptops and gaming PCs.

Should we be surprised? I don’t think so, especially after CD Projekt Red’s announcement Cyberpunk 2077 making his way to the platform. This is one of the most demanding games of this generation in terms of system requirements, so I think that in itself should serve as a strong indicator of how powerful the M4 chips (particularly the M4 Ultra) can be – and how confident Apple is in gaming performance their latest devices.

Beating the Nvidia RTX 4090 in graphics performance (however narrow) is a feat that should not be underestimated, and perhaps it’s time for Apple fans to up their excitement levels…
