Despite the jokes from Jones, the 23-year-old praised the arrival of Mac Allister last season following his £35million move in the summer of 2023, saying he had learned a very useful trick from the World Cup winner. Jones specifically pointed out how Mac Allister used his body, especially his backside, while maintaining possession of the ball.

Asked what he learned from his new teammates, Jones responded to Yaya Toure, who regularly discussed the benefits of using the back, by saying: “Mac Allister, I’ll talk about him. He comes and how he protects.” a ball I’ve never seen before.

“He can take the ball and do those things where he sticks his butt out a little bit and you can’t take the ball away from him. So I think just his experience, he knows when he’s going to be pressured and how he moves.”

Slot was delighted with the win over Brighton, saying after the game: “I think a lot happens in a season. Sometimes you need to defend a lead, sometimes you need to come back from a 1-0 deficit. So, this is a win that you also need in a season where you want to be competitive because you can’t always be the best team on the field from the first to the last second.

“Sometimes you go through a difficult period and then you need to fight back and that’s what we did. I didn’t ask them – I wish they would have done it, and in the end they did – but I didn’t ask them to score two goals, I just asked them to play differently in the second half than we did against Nottingham Forest with a different mentality.

“So if things go against you, you have to show up. Winners always do that, and fortunately we have a lot of winners in our team that came in the second half.”
