Election 2024: Global turmoil as Trump returns, UK sees Labor Party resurgence; Modi is among the few who were saved

In 2024, half the world’s population was expected to vote in 70 elections in 40 countries, with many countries seeing significant leadership changes. Former US President Donald Trump won a second term, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, and India re-elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a third term in May. Pakistan’s Shehbaz Sharif also retained power, but new leaders emerged in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan. In the UK, after almost 14 years, Labor returned to power, and in Japan a new prime minister was elected.
