Fans and media react to Florida’s decision to retain head coach

Billy Napier plans to return to Florida confirmation that the embattled head coach will return lead the Gators.

The decision to retain Napier is stunning after he entered the regular season on the hot seat after a couple of disappointing seasons. The results weren’t great again in 2024, but the Gators looked much better midway through the season.

After blowout losses to Miami and Texas A&M in the first three games of the season, Florida was 3–2 overall with tough losses to Tennessee and Georgia. However, it was still a surprise that an overall record of 4–4 in the final 4 games of the season would bring Napier back.

Instead, Napier does look poised for another season in 2025 after an overall record of 15-18 in his first two-plus seasons. It’s an admittedly difficult decision for some people to make, and fans haven’t been shy about their reactions online.

Some have vowed to stop supporting Florida football until the program decides to get serious, while others have pointed to AD Scott Stricklin as the main problem in Gainesville. Fans of other SEC teams also reacted to the news, with many praising the opportunity to get another game against Napier.
