Quaid-e-Azam Cup 2024/25 starts today – Sports

LAHORE: The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 will begin today with a prize fund of Rs 12.6 million up for grabs.

As many as 18 teams from the 16 regional teams will battle it out across seven cities with the Karachi Region Whites defending champions of the premier first-class tournament, kicking off this year’s campaign against the Peshawar Region at the Ashfaq Ground in Charsadda.

The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 7.5 million and the runners-up will receive Rs 4 million.

The 18 teams will be divided into three groups: Abbottabad Region, Faisalabad Region, Hyderabad Region, Islamabad Region, Lahore White Region and Larkana Region placed in Group A. AJK Region, Bahawalpur Region, Karachi White Region, Multan Region, Peshawar Region and Rawalpindi Region are in group B and Dera Murad Jamali region, FATA region, Karachi region blue, Lahore region blue, Quetta region and Sialkot region. Each team will have the opportunity to play a minimum of five matches in the group stage, with the top team from each group advancing to the triangular stage. In the triangular stage, the top-ranked team in each group will play two matches, with the top two teams advancing to the final, which will take place from December 14 to 18. There are three grounds: Ashfaq Cricket Stadium in Charsadda, Rana Naveed Cricket Academy in Sheikhupura and Saeed Sports City in Lahore. The three cricket grounds will each host five matches in the group stage of the tournament.

Duke’s balls will be used in the red-ball Quaid-e-Azam Cup for the 2024-25 season. The decision followed extensive analysis of the ground and pitch conditions at the inland venues, with the Duke-ball being custom-made to suit local pitches.
