Luckily, this has changed in recent years and we’re slowly starting to see more prepaid options that offer international services either as an add-on or as a free perk. Mint Mobile is one of the carriers with basic international support, but does Mint Mobile work in Canada? The short answer is yes.

The long answer is yes, but there are a few small issues that sometimes confuse people, and we’ll explain how to fix them so you can fully enjoy this feature.

Mint Mobile includes free roaming in Canada on all of its plans.

Mint Mobile recently introduced a free roaming feature in Canada starting July 2024. This new feature is included in all Mint Mobile plans at no additional cost. Regardless of your specific Mint Mobile plan, you’ll receive 3GB of high-speed data per month specifically for use in Canada, which means it doesn’t count toward your existing data allotment. As you’d expect, you also get unlimited talk and text.

Just log into your account at my.mintmobile.com and find Add-ons sidebar, then select Free roaming in Kanda. You will see a graph showing how much data you currently have. You will also have the option to purchase additional data.

How much does additional Mint Mobile data cost in Canada?

If you use up your 3GB data allotment, you will have the option to purchase one of the following data packs:

• 1 GB for 5 dollars
• 3 GB for $10
• 10 GB for $20

Keep in mind that you won’t be able to add more data until you’ve used up at least 80% of your existing Canadian roaming data. Additional data also expires at the end of the month, regardless of whether you’ve used it all up or not.

While Mint Mobile’s free roaming feature in Canada is a great addition, it won’t take long to find people. Reddit unhappy with the fact that they can’t make the data work. However, for some of these calls and texts, everything usually works perfectly. So what’s the problem? While some users will have no problem obtaining data in Canada, if you encounter an issue, there are likely two possible reasons.

First, it’s possible that your phone doesn’t have roaming enabled by default. Exact instructions will vary depending on the device.

For iPhone users: iPhone users should go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular data settings and tap the slider next to data roaming.

For Galaxy users: Galaxy users should switch to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks and tap data roaming switch to on.

For Pixel users: For Pixel users, you should go to Settings > Network and Internet > SIM cards > Mint Mobile and then tap Roaming switch to turn it on.

Do you have an Android device from a brand other than Samsung or Google? There’s a good chance your phone will use the same general steps as the Google Pixel, so it’s worth checking. otherwise, you’ll need to find instructions for your specific device.

Data roaming is already enabled but you still have a problem?

If you have an Android device, you may need to manually enter the correct hotspot settings. This isn’t a common problem as your phone should already be set up correctly for Mint Mobile before you arrive in Canada, but it may solve the problem if it has problems after landing.

The exact steps may vary depending on your phone, but the easiest way is to enter Access Point Names in the settings search bar. From there, you’ll see Mint Mobile listed as one of the options, and there should be some kind of plus button or other switch that allows you to manually add APN settings.

You should see a list of settings that includes name, APN, proxy, port, etc. Here’s what you should manually enter in each field:
