Harris plans to speak at Howard amid GOP calls for her to concede

Vice President Harris will speak at Howard University on Wednesday afternoon amid calls for her to concede to President-elect Trump after the Republican won the 2024 election and is set to do so. extraordinary comeback to the White House.

Republicans called on Harris to concede, including former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R), who congratulated Trump and said the concession was necessary for national unity.

Harris was expected to attend an election night party in Howard and speak with her supporters, but instead did not leave the Naval Observatory. Although the results favored Trump, reporters working with Harris were told around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday that Harris would not be leaving her home.

Harris campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond told supporters Howard was informed that the vice president would not be addressing them as the campaign awaited additional election results. Since then, her campaign social media accounts have remained silent.

Harris’ absence from her own campaign party was reminiscent of the 2016 election, in which then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton chose not to speak at her victory party at the Javits Center in New York after it became clear she would be defeated by Trump .
