Chilton Shelter Caring for 70 Dogs Rescued from FDL County Home

CHILTON (NBC 26) – Workers at the Eastshore Humane Association said it’s all hands on deck since Wednesday afternoon. they are caring for 70 dogs rescued from a home in Fond du Lac County.

Many of these dogs have received medical attention, and Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office officials say it is due to animal neglect.

  • The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said it rescued 70 dogs from a home in Calumet.
  • Most of the dogs are at the Eastshore Humane Association in Chilton, and many have serious health problems.
  • The shelter said it is seeking donations to help care for the animals.

“I have never seen something so sad, animals so severely neglected and cruel,” said Jennifer Schultz, manager of the Eastshore Humane Association shelter in Chilton.
Schultz said the shelter was contacted Wednesday by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office to help with several dogs in the city of Calumet.

“The dogs were in pretty bad shape with severe matting, various broken teeth, broken limbs, missing appendages, broken tails, a lot of feces and urine stuck in their fur,” Schultz said.

Schultz said they rescued a total of 70 dogs from the home on US-151 and noted that many of the dogs had serious health problems.

“There are a lot of infections, a lot of medical work that needs to be done,” Schultz said.

James McKenna lives near the house where the dogs were found.

“It’s shocking,” McKenna said.

The sheriff’s office said they received a call after a report of a foul odor in the home.

A sheriff’s lieutenant said no one was living in the home with dogs at the time.

Schultz said it was a large undertaking for a small private shelter.

“We hope to save them all,” Schultz said. “We are a shelter here where no one dies. We are a shelter that saves lives.”

Schultz said they are collecting donations of money, food and cleaning supplies to help care for the dogs. She said they’ve already seen an outpouring of support from the community.

“It was an emotional morning for all of us here in Eastshore because we just couldn’t have done this without the people that came out and supported us and helped these dogs,” Schultz said.

Schultz said they plan to adopt the dogs after they receive medical care.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the incident and expects charges to be filed.
