Stevens Point accused of using search engine to find child pornography

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – A 66-year-old Stevens Point man is free on $10,000 bail after being charged with five counts of possession of child pornography.

Josef Schaufenbühel is due to enter a plea to his charges on December 16th.

The investigation began on October 10. According to court documents, detectives investigated cyber tips received in August and September 2024 regarding Bing Image searches for possible images of child pornography or child sexual abuse material.

Investigators said an IP address, email address and phone number led them to Schaufenbuhl’s home.

Investigators seized a laptop that they said contained a total of 118 images of explicit child pornography. A further 28 images of child exploitation material were also found.
