Officials are asking for help identifying a body found Tuesday near Postville.

POSTVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for information as it works to identify the gunman. body found near Postville on Tuesday.

Officers were called to the area west of the intersection of Empire Drive and IA-18 around 1:03 p.m. Tuesday.

The body was discovered near railroad tracks in the area.

Law enforcement officials say they believe the death occurred before Aug. 28, 2024.

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office described the man as having black hair, a beard and a missing front tooth. The man was wearing a black long sleeve T-shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers. He was also wearing a green rain jacket and trousers and an oversized gray T-shirt. The blue jeans were size 34×42.

The man also had a black backpack with the Milwaukee Valve logo on it. The bag contained a large red aluminum bottle, as well as a green bonnie style hat.

The bicycle found at the scene is described as a black 21-speed Raleigh hybrid bicycle with a small under-seat storage bag. The serial number on the tire inflator attached to the bike reads: U110K03617.

The sheriff’s office said the man may have been homeless.

Foul play is not suspected and officials said there is no danger to the public.

The body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
