Average tea sales decreased in October – Latest news


Average tea sales in Sri Lanka fell to Rs. 1172.15 (US$4.02) per kilogram, down by Rs. 35.84 and 0.02 US dollars compared to September Rs. 1207.99 (US$4.04), according to the Sri Lanka Tea Board.

Despite the month-on-month decline, the October average increased year-on-year by Rs. 44.01 and 0.53 USD from Rs. 1128.14 ($3.49) in October 2023.

Tea grown recorded an increase over the previous month, with an increase of Rs. 6.67 and 0.12 US dollars, while the year-on-year figures showed an increase of Rs. $125.60 and $0.77.

The monthly average growth tea sales decline was Rs. 23.46 in rupee terms, although the dollar value increased by $0.01 and the annual growth was Rs. $42.88 and $0.47.

The value of lowland tea fell in both rupee and dollar terms on a month-on-month basis by Rs. 49.34 and 0.06 US Dollars but registered a year-on-year increase of Rs. $14.19 and $0.46.

Cumulative results from January to October 2024 show that all tea hills recorded positive deviations in both rupee and dollar terms compared to the corresponding period in 2023.
