Virat Kohli remains one of the most popular celebrities in India and the pure love fans have for him was on full display on Thursday, November 7th. Kohli attended an event organized by banking and finance group HSBC, where he was surprised by fans who sang “Happy Birthday!” in unison with India’s cricket stalwarts. As event host Gaurav Kapoor asked him to sing, fans joined in and wished the cricketer. Kohli, who celebrates his birthday on November 5, turned 36 this year.

Kapoor reminded the crowd that Kohli’s birthday was just two days before before the crowd joined him and sang for him in unison.

Kohli remained smiling after receiving such a warm welcome from the crowd and even said “that’s enough, thank you” to stop the crowd from singing along for too long.

Eventually, host Kapoor also joked with Kohli that the cake was also prepared.

Fans online felt that Kohli reacted sheepishly to the warm reception from the public.

Kohli’s birthday fell between India’s Test series against New Zealand and Australia, allowing him to relax ahead of the marathon five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

He is expected to play a crucial role for India as they aim to defeat Australia and clinch their fifth consecutive Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kohli missed three of the four Tests during India’s last tour of Australia but is expected to be present for the entire series this time.

Kohli enters the series with an average of just 22.72 in Tests in the 2024 calendar year. He hopes to improve on this record in the Test series against Australia.

Kohli will also surely keep an eye on the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. He was hired for INR 21 crore by his franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and there were also rumors that he might return as captain of the franchise.

The IPL 2025 mega auction coincides with the dates of the first Test between India and Australia in Perth. The test match is scheduled for November 22 and 26, while the auction will be held on November 24 and 25.
