Veterans Day is a time to remember all those who have served in the U.S. military, past and present.

Memorial Day honors those who have given their lives in service to their country, while Veterans Day honors all who have served.

Banks, post offices and many businesses throughout Michigan will close their doors. Veterans Day on Monday, November 11, to honor the millions of people who have served. Celebrations and ceremonies will take place across the country and around the world.

What’s closed on Veterans Day? What’s open?

Federal government agencies and courts: Federal courts and secondary government agencies will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day, a federal holiday. Federal offices include Veterans Affairs offices, courthouses, Social Security offices, and other locations.

Garbage removal: In some cities, trash and recycling collection may be delayed or rescheduled on Monday. Contact your local providers.

Local authorities: City and county administrative offices will be closed.

National parks: In honor of veterans, national parks will remain open and be free to all visitors on Monday.

Restaurants: Most restaurants will be open, but some chains, such as Applebee’s, Olive Garden and Starbucks, will be closed. offering free lunches or treats veterans and military personnel as a sign of gratitude for their service.

Schools: Some schools will be closed. Contact your local county.

Supermarkets and retail: Most grocery stores and retailers will remain open on Veterans Day. Some stores may have reduced opening hours.

Why is Veterans Day celebrated on November 11th?
