The fatal shooting at an apartment complex was the 34th homicide in the Virgin Islands this year.

ST. CROIX — On Friday, a fatal shooting at the Walter M.M. Hodge on St. Croix killed a 19-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the head.


Police Department VI said the incident was first flagged by multiple calls to St. Croix 911 at approximately 6:12 p.m., alerting authorities to the location of a male victim with serious injuries.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a young man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency personnel rushed him to Juan F. Luis Hospital for emergency medical treatment, but he later died from his injuries. VIPD identified the deceased as Errol Stephen St. Jean after confirmation from his next of kin. His death was the 16th on St. Croix in 2024. John County has already recorded 18 homicides for the year, bringing the territory’s total to 34 so far.

VIPD’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) has launched an active investigation into the shooting.
