2024 NBA League Draft Results

2024 NBA League Draft Results

The NBA held its draft for the 2024-25 season on Saturday afternoon. Players who signed contracts with the NBAGL and whose rights were not already controlled by the team were included in the draft pool.

For the first time in G League history, each of the 30 NBA teams had an affiliate team participating in the draft. A 31st team, the unaffiliated Mexico City Captains, also took part.

Westchester Knicksaffiliate of New York, took the top two players from Saturday’s draft and used them to select a pair of NBA veterans.

In the overall standings, the sniper was chosen No. 1. Matt Ryanwhich is reported to be attracting interest from the Knicks and is a candidate to be called up to the NBA roster at some point this season.

Bringing Ryan to Westchester won’t prevent another NBA team from poaching him, as owning a player’s G League rights doesn’t mean you control his NBA rights. But it will give the Knicks a chance to take a look at him in person before offering him a standard or two-way contract.

Ryan made 41.1 percent of his three-point attempts in 63 NBA games with the Celtics, Lakers, Timberwolves and Pelicans.

The second player on the board was a swingman. Landry Shametwho is recovering from a dislocated shoulder. Selecting him in the G League draft will allow the Knicks to keep him in the organization and closely monitor his rehabilitation process.

Shamet was expected to make an NBA roster prior to the injury and would be a candidate to return to the NBA lineup later in the season if he fully recovers from his shoulder injury. He was the most experienced player in NBAGL draft poolwith 348 regular season games at the NBA level.

Another big name was selected fifth overall as a former NBA first-round pick. Chandler Hutchison came out of retirement and was compiled on Long Island Networks. Hutchison, 28, was the 22nd overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and played in 103 games over the next four seasons for Chicago, Washington and Phoenix.

Although Hutchison was technically chosen by the Nets’ affiliate, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fisher says (via Twitter) South Bay Lakers purchased this choice in exchange for Colin CastletonWe are returning the rights.

Fischer later reported (via Twitter) that the South Bay was looking to move up from 5th to 3rd place, and while we haven’t gotten confirmation on that yet, it would make sense for the Lakers affiliate to work something out with the Cleveland Charge (Cavaliers), who selected a rookie defenseman Sean East II from Missouri – East reportedly agreed to the Figure 10 deal with the Lakers back in June, but it never happened. If the Lakers select him in the G League draft, he could end up in the South Bay after all.

Finally, a pair of familiar names were selected at the end of the second round: 53rd and 54th overall. Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Rocketspartner, caught former Knicks guard Allonso Trierfollowed by Maine Celtics (Boston branch) compilation Kavion PippenGrizzlies guard’s cousin Scottie Pippen Jr. and Hall of Fame nephew Scottie Pippen.

Kavion Pippen wasn’t the only member of the Hall of Famer’s family to leave the board in the second round. Go-Go Capital (Wizards) selected former USC forward DJ Rodmanson Dennis Rodmanwith number 43.
