Belkeri iron ore disappearance case: Karnataka Congress MLA Satish Sile sentenced to 7 years in prison

A Bengaluru court on Saturday sentenced Satish Sale, a Congress MP from Karwar in Karnataka, to seven years in prison after finding him guilty of cheating in the Belkeri iron ore disappearance case.

Six others were sentenced to seven years in prison in the iron ore export case.

Following the verdict passed by the Special Public Representatives Court, Saile’s position as MLA was also cancelled, due to imprisonment exceeding two years, as per the provisions of Article 190(3) of the Constitution.

On Thursday, a special court found Sahil guilty in the illegal iron ore export case, ordered the immediate arrest of all the accused and deferred the verdict until Saturday.

Sale along with forest officer Mahesh Bilye and Mallikarjuna Shipping were among those found guilty for their involvement in the fraud case.

The case concerns the illegal transportation of more than 11 thousand tons of confiscated iron ore without official permission.

The court heard the case after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigated the case and filed a chargesheet.
