Nine members of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruitment Agencies (Baira), including the acting president, vice president and joint secretary.

They announced their resignations at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unite today (October 27), citing the need for transparent elections within the organization.

The outgoing members, led by senior vice-president Riazul Islam and vice-president Noman Chowdhury, submitted their resignations on October 24 to seek “the creation of conditions conducive to the conduct of proper elections” by appointing an administrator.

They accused Bayra President Abul Bashar and the current committee of “illegal actions” and obstructing democratic processes within the organization.

“To respect the aspirations of our members, it is important to hold fair and acceptable elections. We call for the appointment of an administrator who will facilitate this,” said Fakhrul Islam, who was joint secretary.

The outgoing leaders say the current committee’s term expired on September 7, but its term has been extended twice without holding new elections. They said the only path to credible elections was the appointment of an administrator.
