A 17-year-old Ottawa driver was caught driving nearly 90 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 417.

Ontario Provincial Police say they pulled over the driver, who only had a G2 beginner’s license, around 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Police caught the driver driving at 188 km/h, while the speed limit in urban areas of Ottawa is 100 km/h.

“This is a phone call no parent wants to receive. “Your child has been arrested, your car has been impounded,” OPP said on X.

The driver has been charged with stunt driving, reckless driving and improper use of a commercial vehicle lane.

Stunt and reckless driving charges in Ontario result in an immediate 30-day driver’s license suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment.

Convicted drivers can receive a fine of up to $10,000, six demerit points and a prison sentence of up to six months.
