Inter 4-4 Juventus: Simone Inzaghi says Inter clearly deserved to win Serie A Thriller

Simone Inzaghi said he was “never part of the game” as he held his breath draw 4-4 it saw Juventus come from behind twice to share the spoils with Inter.

Kenan Yildiz was the Derby of Italy hero for the visitors as he came off the bench at San Siro to score twice in 11 second-half minutes against the Serie A champions.

A frantic first half ended 3-2 to Inzaghi, with Piotr Zielinski (two) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan canceling out the efforts of Timothy Weah and Dusan Vlahovic.

And when Denzel Dumfries made it 4-2 in favor of the hosts at half-time, Inzaghi could not have imagined what would happen next.

“The neutral players enjoyed it tonight, I enjoyed it a little less,” Inzaghi said. Sky Sport Italy.

“To be honest, I have never played in a game like this. It seemed that no one warned about the return of Juventus. Perhaps I could do more, but at the moment I have limited options for rotating the squad.”

Despite being third in the table, the only goal Juventus had conceded before Sunday was a penalty against Cagliari at home.

But for all of Inter’s impressive attacking performances against a notoriously stingy defence, Inzaghi was convinced his “frustrated and angry” side should have scored more in their 18 attempts.

Juventus were a team that had conceded only one penalty in eight Serie A matches, and today they should have conceded seven or eight.

“Unfortunately we had four or five chances to add a fifth. This is an experienced team, we know that such chances cannot be missed.

“Then Yildiz scored without warning. We lost our form a little, then with the fourth goal we made a series of mistakes. This jeopardized a match that we clearly deserved.

“It’s right that the team feels frustrated and angry, but we have to also look at the positives: create nine or 10 clear scoring opportunities against a team that has only conceded once in Serie A this season.”

And while the 20-time Italian champions were boiling in attack, Inzaghi questioned their defence, which conceded four goals from just five shots on target.

“There is disappointment. We were up against a strong team like Juventus, but we can’t concede four goals,” Inzaghi said.

“We have kept two clean sheets in a row, but I am well aware that we need to do more. The shots on target are very similar to last year, but we miss a lot more.

“We are conceding goals that are frankly unacceptable. We probably would have won by a bigger margin last season.”
